Tour experience
The main river in this region is the Wairoa, which was considerably modified by the hydro-electric power generation a few years ago, fortunately the fish and vegetation are recovering well. The clear waters flow sedately through deep gorge areas and past cliffs with many feeder streams flowing from rugged, heavily bush-clad ranges. These streams and river are surrounded by scenic farmlands and bordered by native bush which makes them pleasant to fish and picnic beside. Most of these waters are easy to wade and the access is generally good excluding the gorge areas.
Usually visitors who are in the Tauranga region requesting a day’s fishing, prefer to go to Rotorua to fish for the day.
