Tour experience
There are numerous small lakes surrounded by farmlands in the Auckland area, all of which are stocked annually with hatchery fish. Most of these lakes contain coarse fish as well as trout. Frequently these have excellent access points and shoreline wading is possible. There are also a variety of rivers within 2 hours of the Port of Auckland and Auckland airport. These include clear river waters flowing over rock, gravel and pumice with stable holding pools. Other rivers flow sedately through farmlands and there are also deep clear rivers with gorges and boulder beds for the adventurous angler where the fish in bright conditions, can be spotted and stalked.
The small streams and spring creeks which run over pumice and weed beds contain fish which keep cool under the patches of overhanging native bush. Another possible challenge which can be included in your outing are the deep narrow creeks/streams with mud beds, in the pastoral blocks. Well cared for walking tracks beside the streams with stable well-developed pools and good stock make this area an attractive adventure for your stop-over in Auckland.
